Assistant Designer

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

As an Assistant Designer at PDR you will join a talented, thoughtful team that works to create meaningful experiences for our clients that allow them to thrive and grow as a business. You should be a fast learner and willing to assist in all phases of design projects, including, but not limited to - programming, space planning, material selections, specifications, architectural detailing, construction documents, furniture specification, and construction administration. To succeed in the role you should demonstrate creativity, reliability, a willingness to learn and try new things, professionalism, and self-confidence. You will also work with other designers at PDR to learn and contribute to design innovation, culture of design and design standards.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Design Concept

  • Ability to contribute to the creation of a design concept and corresponding material palettes that embody the business goals and overall story of the client.
  • Begin to understand the architectural design process.
  • Provide assistance throughout the interior design process under routine guidance; contributes to the overall success of the team by adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence in interior design, execution, and sustainability.
  • Assist in creating presentation materials and models for client presentations.
  • Learn to manipulate basic design elements such as spactial layout, color, light, texture, and scale.
  • Research manufacturers and contribute to selection of colors, finishes, materials, furniture, and lighting for interior application, ensuring sustainability goals of the firm are maintained.

Design Deliverables

  • Participate in preparing contract documents, including but not limited to floor plans and details, reflecting ceiling plans, millwork deisgn, furniture layouts, finish plans, and schedules.
  • Contribute to programming and space planning analysis and provides area calculations.
  • Gain exposure to knowledge of project scope, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Use a creative approach to perform tasks and responsibilities on projects in an organized, timely, and consistent way.
  • Desire for continued growth in PDR platforms and processes.
  • Provide support to tasks within project teams (may focus on individual detailed tasks) and studio activities.
  • Ability to work on architectural and millwork details as well as all parts of Contruction Documents.
  • Self-check work for accuracy, omissions, legibility, and for document compliance in accordance with PDR project standards and PDR project checklist.

Culture and Career Development

  • Proactively asks questions and expresses curiosity about the world of design, materials, and products as well as the industry at large.
  • Participate in design reviews, charettes, and pin-ups.
  • Keep open communication within team and with designated team leader.
  • Communicate ideas and thoughts in a way that inspires others.
  • Assist with coordination among partners and consultants.
  • Attend company happy hours, internal vendor presentations, and external verdor/industy events in order to expand ones network and learn about new products and materials.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Interior Design or Architecture from a CIDA or NCARB accredited school.
  • 0-5 years of post-graduate experience.

Skills

  • Strong technical and modeling skills, including Revit experience.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling, visualization, and graphic design software.
  • Enscape experience preferred.
  • Resourcefulness of unique materials, furniture, and fixtures.
  • Preparing for NCIDQ exam.
  • Additional skills could include Adobe suite, Lumion, or Rhino.
