Now through August 26th, the Architecture Center Houston (ArCH) has a free exhibit, that is open to the public titled, EGD Dimensions featuring work by PDR among other local designers and architects. According to ArCH, EGD Dimensions celebrates not only what EGD is, but how it behaves across a range of dimensions. So what is it? EGD is Experiential Graphic Design, historically referred to as Environmental Graphic Design. EGD's objective is to create a more engaging environment that gives people an experience, often by telling a story or communicating through it's design. Some examples of EGD include wayfinding, signage, branding, and interactive digital technology.
Last week, PDR employees took a trip to the exhibit, located at 315 Capitol, with fellow PDR colleague, Steven Shultz who is also one of the exhibit curators. The group walked through the self-guided exhibit looking at images of PDR’s recognizable work. Some of our showcased images included our award winning, branding work with Eight Row Flint, samples of our client's signage and wayfinding, and an image of a graphic design we did for a parking garage for an oil and gas client. The exhibit shows the various dimensions that EGD can take whether that’s 2-dimensional and in the form of flat vinyl signage installations, or larger like monuments, animations and illuminations. You can even catch a glimpse of PDR's iconic yellow illuminated wall.
The Architecture Center Houston (ArCH) is intended to be a place for the public, both Houston residents and tourists, to learn about architecture in general and the built environment of greater Houston. ArCH occupies approximately 5,000 SF carved from the old Albert Thomas Convention Center in Phase II of the Bayou Place renovation developed by The Cordish Company. ArCH houses offices for the American Institute of Architecture, Houston Chapter, the Houston Architecture Foundation, a gallery for rotating architecture-related exhibitions, meeting rooms, and a terrace overlooking Buffalo Bayou. The exhibit, sponsored in part by Sparq1200, is open Monday through Thursday from 9am-5pm and Fridays from 9am-3pm.
