The objective: to plan for an uncertain future, which could mean office expansion or reduction. To look at the big picture and plan for all outcomes takes experienced consultants like PDR. It is important to be strategic in your approach; the office environment can be a platform for modulation that allows you to continue to change over time and adapt quicker to market conditions. Consider using a modular approach for building systems (ceiling, lighting, power/data) and a kit of parts approach for furniture. Heather says a large part of this strategic approach is to look at the company’s overall business challenges and understand where they are today and where they want to go in the future. An organization’s thoughtful investment in its future work environment can be a highly effective tool to connect and engage its people. If your work environment is not changing at the same rate as technology and internal work processes, your organization could be at risk of losing its competitive advantage. Heather says this approach is scale-able and can be applied to half-floor projects or an entire corporate campus.
