Accenture Wilmington

Accenture’s outsourcing agreement with Dupont required the hiring and relocation of hundreds of Dupont’s employees into a new facility designed to enable efficient development of SAP software systems. Having created the High Performance Team concept for Accenture development centers years prior, PDR implemented the HPT concept into a landmark building in Wilmington, Delaware.

The former John Wannamaker’s department store was revitalized and remodeled to accommodate 1,200 staff. The character of the building was preserved and enhanced by integrating core concepts of HPT; enabling collaboration, efficiently using space and resources, providing community spaces, creating "neighborhoods" for concentrative work, all resulting in a workplace that inspires creativity. The Wannamaker’s building provided the perfect backdrop for Accenture’s work with large floorplates and high volumes.

While business efficiency is the measurable key to success, the Accenture Partner-in-Charge of the DuPont agreement knew that one key issue could be a high rate of attrition as senior experienced employees made the transition from a DuPont career to a new Accenture career. Our singular design challenge was to create a space so inspiring and fun that employees would " skip down the aisles on the way to their desks."
